River of Remembrance

Please enjoy these photos and share the peace and beauty we experience at our annual River of Remembrance event.

This annual event kicks off National Crime Victims week. Attendees are invited to place an engraved or painted rock with their loved one's name in the River of Remembrance. Remembrances are mentioned about the loved one's life  -- not only of their tragic deaths, but something special about each person. This helps to carry on their memory.

This event is put on by the Survivors of Violent Loss Program (SVLP), a nonprofit program providing services for survivors for over ten years and is hosted by its founders, Connie Saindon and Joyce Knott of the Cara Knott Foundation.

History
Inspiration for this event came from Connie's road trip back east. She learned about a similar event called "The Trail of Tears: A Forced Relocation of the Cherokee Nation."  Upon hearing about it, the SVLP Board of Directors agreed it was an event worthy of SVLP and renamed it as"The River of Remembrance Annual Event".  Various community agencies and other professionals help to co-sponsor and support the event by inviting other survivors in the area. The event is held at the Crime Victims Oak Garden in San Diego where Cara Knott was murdered in 1986.

How you can Help
Additional photos from the event can be seen here. All photos purchased on this site helps support events like this and other work of the Survivors of Violent Loss Program. The Survivors of Violent Loss Program has been providing services (many which are free) and other opportunities like the River of Remembrance event.

We depend on donations like yours to ensure these services and opportunities remain available "after the police leave".

Thanks to so many of you who make this event a very special event ever year. To become a member of our Community Care Team email us.
